Fiber Distributed Antenna Systems for Indoor and Outdoor – ION™-Series
Fiber Distributed Antenna Systems Indoor & Outdoor ION-Series
The Andrew Solutions ION Intelligent Optical Network provides an optimized, easy-to-scale, fiber-based distributed solution for indoor and outdoor applications. Homogeneous coverage and sufficient capacity can be provided from car park through stairwell to office or exhibition hall with maximum QoS (quality of service) and GoS (grade of service).
Wireless operators may choose from a wide variety of power levels and other features to maximize coverage and quality while optimizing cost. For example, in a high rise building, capacity and coverage may be shaped by creating a distribution system that allows each floor to share the capacity of other floors with a low power ION-B, Cell-Max™ indoor antennas, and RADIAX® radiating feeder cable.
The Andrew Solutions ION-B Series is a Radio-over-Fiber (RoF) distributed antenna system which meets all distribution needs from the simplest to the most complex indoor applications. It is capable of transporting frequencies from 700 to 2700 MHz regardless of protocol or modulation.

multi-user applications. The remote units support WLAN (wireless
local area network) and WiMAX (worldwide interoperability for microwave
access) services through a transparent channel, while optional test
heads monitor antenna signals and deliver reliable performance data
in neutral host scenarios
Options
UPS - Uninterruptible Power Supply provides high quality
AC power for electronic equipment loads, especially for outside repeater
systems to give continuity of electrical power for at least 20 minutes
up to 8 hours when commercial AC source fails or degrades from overload,
surges, or spikes.
BBU - Battery Backup Unit is used in the master unit
to operate the controller and the modem for 10 minutes up to 8 hours to
maintain control over the system and proceed problem root-cause finding
even when the master site power is down.
Redundancy - Various redundancy options from
redundant power supply to power amplifier and optical modules to full
redundant systems with 2 remote units and 2 fiber links running in redundancy
configuration.
CPD - Channel Power Detector is a test-head inside
the remote unit that give exact downlink power per band and channel (rms)
measured directly at the antenna port – It includes also VSWR measurement.
Alarming is possible on VSWR and downlink power high and low levels.
UMR - Universal Measurement Receiver
is a test-head inside the remote unit that give exact downlink power (RSSI)
per band and channel, Ec/No, pilot-power and pilot and signalling decoding
for AMPS, CDMA, GSM, DCS, UMTS, WiMAX. The measurements are for downlink
and uplink and it provides also traffic statistics in uplink. It includes
also VSWR measurement. Alarming is possible on VSWR and downlink power
high and low levels.
CSO - Cable Supervision Option is used in systems that
feed radiating cable. It injects a pilot signal at the output of a remote
unit and checks whether this pilot is received on the other side of the cable
at the input of the next remote-unit. By this its easy to detect a lose of
broken cable.
ION™-M Application Examples:
The ION™-Ms available performance margin, the optical link budget, and
the system flexibility allows to built up various network configurations.
Regarding the link between master unit and remote unit, it is possible
to configure the system according to the following methods:
Point-to-point connection
Star configuration
Daisy-chain configuration
A sector (BTS/Node B port) can be assigned to a single remote unit, a
single optical link (maximum four remote units), or multiple remote units.
The criteria for the number of remote units assigned to a sector, is mainly
determined by the maximum raise of noise power acceptable at the BTS/Node
B.
Because of MCPA (multi-carrier power amplifier) technology, the ION™-M
series is ideally suited for multi-carrier (multi-user) wide-band applications.
But it also supports high reliability networks such as GSM-R or TETRA with
multiple redundancy scenarios on equipment or network level.
