Meet Allie Young: Founder, Protect the Sacred

We’ve teamed up with @TheLittleMarket in a 10-part Changemaker series because together we believe women are making world-shifting change. In honor of this, we are sitting down with Changemakers to hear how they’re pushing boundaries and problem-solving in pursuit of making a positive impact.

In the words of Dolores Huerta, the recipient of The Little Market’s 2022 Changemaker Award, “Sí se puede!” It means, “Yes we can!”

Next in the series, we have the huge honor of meeting Allie Young and hearing what it means to her to be a Changemaker.

What does it mean to be a Changemaker?

A changemaker is someone who is dedicated to the work that uplifts a community in all of its strengths and positivity. Making change is selfless and leans into the notion that “it takes a village” to move the needle. A Changemaker doesn't do it alone, but rather lends the vision and empowers a community to manifest that vision for positive impact.

How do you inspire the people around you?

I hope to inspire people around me, my community especially, by using the words gifted to me by my ancestors to give them hope and motivation. I believe in the vision we see collectively and I remind them that it's possible because of who we come from and the shoulders we stand on, and it's our responsibility to continue thriving for those who came after us and the next seven generations.

Who do you feel is making a positive impact right now?

Winona LaDuke (activist), Secretary Deb Haaland (politician), and Sierra Teller Ornelas (showrunner).

These three Indigenous women are not only breaking barriers, but they are simultaneously pulling other Indigenous sisters up with them in their respective spheres, creating needed and long overdue space for Indigenous representation.

How does wearing The Changemaker make you feel?

The Changemaker makes me feel confident and inspires me to continue dreaming and creating. It makes me want to be a better leader, but more importantly, a better community member.

Lastly, what does an average morning look like for you?

Getting ready bright and early, brewing my coffee, listening to soothing music (like Adele), logging onto my computer, reading news and pop culture articles, and then diving into my work.
