Meet Kira West: Creator, Entrepreneur & Athlete

At Grayson, we believe in lifting every woman up. In honor of Black History Month, we’ll be using our platform each week to highlight Black voices, celebrate important figures in history and contribute $40,000 to causes that directly impact WOC. First up in the series, we meet Kira West.

Tell us about yourself:

I’m the founder of MadeByKwest, an impact driven jewelry company creating timeless pieces inspired by the world. In the midst of the Black Lives Matter movement of 2020, I co-founded ACTIV-ISM, an anti-racism wellness program. I’m also an athlete. My running journey has shown me just how much I’m capable of... not just at the end of a race but in life.

What is your 'why'?

Success has always been defined by impact and being able to make a positive one means the world to me. I’m so grateful to be giving back via MadeByKwest and contributing to Girls Going Global which helps young women of color explore both domestically as well as abroad.

What are you working on right now?

Working on growing MadeByKwest and launching new mindful running products via ByKwest. Also planning a wedding and kicking off training for a busy marathon running season this year.

How can our community get involved?

Shop Black owned, mission driven businesses not just during Black History Month but always! If you’re not in a position to purchase spreading the word and sharing helps a ton! Follow along @madebykwest and @bykwest.

What historical Black figure or event would you like to spotlight and why?

It’s hard to pick one because History is made daily. I’m inspired by my friend Martinique and all she’s done within the Black travel space to hold brands accountable while also elevating and telling our stories.

In honor of Kira and so many other incredible Black women and girls, we are donating $10,000 to A non profit organization seeking to address the disparity of girls of color in international education and today’s field of travel and international affairs. They provide global leadership programming to girls from underrepresented communities. It is their mission to empower girls of color through travel and cultural exchange to become creators and leaders of the world.
